Biographical Note

Stanley James Krygier was born in Philadelphia to Polish immigrant parents in 1903. He originally intended to be a pharmacist, but eventually decided that dentistry suited him better. His undergraduate and dental education was at Temple University, and he graduated from Temple’s dental school in 1927.

Dr. Krygier practiced as a general dentist in Philadelphia for seven years and then, at the suggestion of a classmate, moved his practice to Dover in 1934. Although he continued in general practice at first, he eventually became more interested in orthodontics, and after twelve years as a general dentist he decided to specialize in orthodontics. After getting a master’s degree in orthodontics from the University of Pennsylvania, in 1950 he opened an orthodontic practice with offices in Dover and Wilmington. In 1952, he closed the Dover office and moved full-time to Wilmington.

Dr. Krygier eventually left private practice in 1984 to become owner and president of a company called Orthodontic International Services, which provided orthodontic equipment worldwide by mail order. He sold the company in 1987.

He served a term as president of the Delaware State Dental Society, in 1948, and was also president of the Kent and Sussex County Dental Society, president of the Philadelphia Society of Orthodontists, and president of the Middle Atlantic Society of Orthodontists. He was a member of the International College of Dentists and the American Association of Orthodontists, as well as a diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. Dr. Krygier also volunteered his services as a staff orthodontist at the Alfred I. duPont Institute.

Dr. Krygier died on December 19, 1998.
