Delaware Public Health Association

Food and Nutrition

 Section Chair: Allison Karpyn, PhD

The purpose of the DPHA Food and Nutrition Section is closely aligned with that of the national organization and seeks to:

Provide leadership in Delaware and to advocate for local and state policies, practices and environmental changes and research that support healthful eating and physical activity.

In order to achieve this goal, the section will work to inform members of and influence local and state policy developments related to food, public health nutrition and physical activities through local, state, regional and national partnerships. Further the group will work to maintain a strong information sharing network to share new research and knowledge related to food nutrition and physical activity nationally. We also will seek to host discussions to strengthen and support health policy, practices, programs and coordination across a diverse range of experts impacting healthy eating and physical activity. Support for the administrative and leadership efforts of DPHA including its governance, and membership recruitment efforts are also critical to the development of the Association in the state and will be core goals of the section.

In order to operationalize these objectives, we propose hosting an annual lecture and an annual research forum for policy makers.
