Jennifer Horney, PhD, MPH

Dr. Jennifer Horney is Professor and Founding Chair of the Department of Epidemiology and Core Faculty at the Disaster Research Center at the University of Delaware. She is also the Director of the University’s Partnership for Healthy Communities. Dr. Horney’s research focuses on measuring the health impacts of disasters. She has been part of the public health responses to Hurricanes Isabel, Charley, Katrina, Wilma, Irene, Harvey and Helene where she conducted rapid assessments of disaster impacts on health in close collaboration with governmental and community-based partners. She has previously served as a member of the Board of Scientific Counselors for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Center for Preparedness and Response, the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine’s Gulf Research Program’s Enhancing Community Resilience committee, and the American Public Health Association’s Publication Board. She has led interdisciplinary research projects funded by many federal agencies and has provided technical assistance to public health agencies globally around disasters, emerging infectious disease outbreaks, and pandemic planning and response.
