Lewis B. Flinn President’s Award: Joseph F. Kestner, Jr., MD

Dr. Kestner graduated from the Thomas Jefferson University, Jefferson Medical College in 1968.  He completed his internship at Philadelphia General Hospital in 1969 and his residency at Jefferson Hospital from 1969 – 1973.  Dr. Kestner completed a pulmonology fellowship at George Washington University Medical Center in 1975.

Dr. Kestner specialized in Pulmonary Critical Care Medicine and Pulmonary Medicine and was affiliated with Christiana Hospital.  Dr. Kestner is certified in internal medicine and pulmonary disease and was the President of the Academy of Medicine from 2006-2008.

 

 

Executive Director’s Public Health Recognition Award: Sussex County Health Coalition

The Sussex County Health Coalition is an organization committed to fostering the well-being of children, youth, and families in Sussex County through collaborative endeavors. They actively monitor the health status of the community, raise awareness about prevalent health issues, and advocate for community concerns and ideas. By engaging stakeholders from various sectors, including not-for-profit, public, and private, they work to build partner capacity and mobilize resources for health promotion efforts. The coalition facilitates the development of tailored strategies to promote child and family health, while supporting collaborative initiatives aimed at improving community policies, programs, and practices. Their targeted areas of focus encompass a wide spectrum of health-related objectives, ranging from ensuring healthy births and supporting child development to addressing substance use disorders and chronic health concerns. Through these comprehensive efforts, the Sussex County Health Coalition aims to create a healthier environment where children, youth, and families can thrive and flourish.

 

Keynote Speaker

President of the American Public Health Association: Ella Greene-Moton

Serving as a community/academic bridge, Ella Greene-Moton has an extensive background in public health advocacy, public health policy, Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR), and programming, spanning over the past forty plus years in the City of Flint and surrounding areas. She currently serves as Administrator of the Community Based Organization Partners (CBOP) Community Ethics Review Board (CERB), with specific efforts in public health Ethics focused on providing an awareness at the community level, developing and elevating the community voice and advocating for community inclusiveness at the State and National Levels.

Her areas of expertise include facilitating community/academic/practice partnership building and sustainability as well as developing and managing community-based projects. Ella is honored to continue her engagement with the Michigan Public Health Association, the Great Lakes Public Health Coalition, and humbled to have been elected the 2022 President of the American Public Health Association.
